Description
Every letter makes a sound, and hearing that sound at the start of a word is one of the first big steps in learning to read. These alphabet picture match flash cards turn that skill into a game. Children match each letter card, like Aa, to the picture card whose name begins with that sound, like an apple, so they practice letter names, letter sounds and beginning sounds all at once.
The set has 52 game cards: 26 letter cards printed in clear, easy-to-read print letters from Aa to Zz, and 26 colorful picture cards of everyday objects, one for every letter. Each picture shows one simple thing a young child can name, such as a ball, a kite or a zipper, with its word printed below. Print the cards one-sided and cut on the dashed lines. Children pick a letter, say its sound, find the matching picture and put the pair together. The cards also work for a memory game or Go Fish, and an answer key lists every letter with its picture card. A kindergarten practice worksheet asks children to say the name of six new pictures and circle the letter that makes the first sound, and it comes with its own answer key.
