How to teach Area and Perimeter
Using this Area and Perimeter Pirate Activity, students apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles to match each pirate with his ship.
Your students will need to know how to find the perimeter to build fences around gardens and pools. Area is also a necessary skill when choosing a place to live. This activity helps your students understand when they will need to know area and perimeter outside of the classroom.
For best quality and multiple uses of this Area and Perimeter Pirate Activity, print the pirate cards and ship cards on card stock and laminate. Cut all of the cards out so that your kinesthetic Students can move and manipulate the cards to match the pirate cards to the appropriate ship cards. Then, students will apply area and perimeter formulas to calculate the area and perimeter on each of the pirate cards, matching up the ships cards as they get their answer. Students will record their answers on the answer card. Refer to the Answer Key Card for a quicker check.
