The first weeks of school are full of new words, and the objects a child reaches for every day are the friendliest place to start. When children rearrange mixed-up letters into crayon, eraser, pencil, recess, ruler and teacher, they practise letter order, spelling patterns and sight recognition all at once. This Back to School Scramble Worksheet turns that practice into a puzzle, so students who might sigh at a spelling list will happily work through six scrambled school words instead.
This printable 2nd grade back to school worksheet gives second graders a word box at the top and six scrambled words below it. Students read each scramble, hunt for the matching word in the box, and write the correct spelling on the solid line beside it. The word box keeps the task achievable for emerging spellers while still asking them to think, because the answers are deliberately shuffled and never run in the same order as the box. There are three clear reasons this Back to School Scramble Worksheet helps children learn.
