Butterfly writing paper turns a blank page into an invitation to write. Second graders are ready to hold a small idea in their heads and stretch it into a story, but a bare sheet of notebook paper rarely gives them a reason to start. A themed page does. When the lines are framed by a bright paper-collage garden, the child already has a subject, a setting and a character before the pencil ever moves, and the writing task shifts from “think of something” to “tell me about this.”
This butterfly writing paper gives your students a short, friendly prompt at the top and ten roomy writing rules below it. The directions ask each child to write a story about one butterfly they like and to tell where it flies and what it sees, so the page names a topic without dictating the story. The rules are spaced for second-grade handwriting, so letters have room to sit properly on the line and nothing feels cramped. Print one copy per student and let them draft straight onto the page, or use it as the final copy after a rough draft on scrap paper.

Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Use this second grade insect writing paper as part of an insect or life-cycle unit and pair it with a picture book about butterflies before students write. Brainstorm colour and movement words on the board first, then let the class borrow from that list. For a shorter session, ask for three sentences instead of a full page. Finished pages make an easy spring bulletin board, and reading them aloud gives every child an audience. At home, a walk outside first gives a child something real to describe.
