About this resource
Description
Community helpers keep a neighborhood running, and every one of them reaches for a different tool to do the job. This community helper tools matching worksheet gives first graders a clear, hands-on way to connect the worker to the equipment: the firefighter to the hose, the chef to the pot, the farmer to the tractor, the painter to the brush, and the mail carrier to the bag. Learning who does what in a community is one of the first social studies standards children meet, and matching a tool to its owner turns that idea into something a six-year-old can see and explain.
The page is built in two parts so students practice the same five words twice. In Part A they read a short sentence about a helper and draw a line to the tool word that fits it. In Part B they finish five sentences by writing the missing tool word on a wide handwriting line. Use this first grade community worksheet as a warm-up before a community unit, as independent seatwork during centers, or as a quick check after a read-aloud about jobs in town. The answer key on the second page makes grading a thirty-second job.
What’s Included
- One printable page with two activities on a single community helpers theme
- Part A: five tool words matched to five helper clues, scrambled so answers cannot be guessed by position
- Part B: five fill-in-the-blank sentences with wide first grade writing lines
- A full answer key on the final page
- Original watercolor artwork of a firefighter holding a hose
Three Reasons This Helps Kids
- It builds community vocabulary that shows up on every early social studies assessment.
- Reading a clue and choosing one word from five practices careful reading, not guessing.
- Writing each answer by hand reinforces spelling and letter formation at the same time.
Teacher and Parent Ideas
- Bring in real objects — a paint brush, a wooden spoon, a canvas bag — and let students hold the tool before they write the word.
- Invite a community helper to visit the classroom, then have students add a sixth helper and tool to the back of the page.
- Turn Part A into a floor game: tape the tool words on one wall and the helper clues on the other, and let children walk the match.
- Send this community helper tools matching worksheet home as homework and ask families to name a helper they saw that week.
