Partners to ten are the number pairs that add up to 10, and they are one of the first real fluency milestones in early math. A child who knows instantly that 6 and 4 go together, or that 7 needs 3, can add and subtract far more quickly for years afterward. This Creating Numbers Partners to Ten Worksheet gives first grade students a clear, picture-supported way to find every one of those pairs and then write them down for themselves.
The worksheet opens with four ten-trains. Each train is a row of ten squares with some of them shaded, so a child can count the shaded part, count the empty part, and write both numbers into the boxes that complete the sentence. Because the whole train is always ten squares long, the two partners are visible before they are written, and the addition sentence becomes a record of something the child has already seen. The second half moves the same thinking away from the picture: a partner table lists five numbers and asks for the partner to ten underneath each one, from memory or by counting on. Across the two parts every partner from one to nine appears exactly once, so no pair is practiced twice and none is missed.
