About this resource
Description
Delaware is a small state with a big place in history, and a delaware word search worksheet is a fun way for students to learn its most important facts. Kids practice spotting words while they meet the state capital, the state tree, the state bug and more. Learning state facts builds geography knowledge and helps students connect places on a map to real people, plants and animals.
This delaware word search worksheet has two parts. In Part A, students find and circle six Delaware words hidden across, down and diagonally in the puzzle. In Part B, they read six short fact sentences and write the state word from the box that completes each one. Use it as a morning warm-up, a social studies center, or quiet seat work during a unit on the fifty states.
What’s Included
- An 11 by 11 word search with six Delaware state words
- A word box with Dover, First, holly, ladybug, peach and weakfish
- Six fact sentences to complete with the correct state word
- A full answer key with every word circled and every blank filled in
Why It Helps Kids
First, it builds real social studies knowledge about the First State, including its capital and state symbols. Second, the word search strengthens visual scanning and spelling as students hunt for each word letter by letter. Third, the fill-in sentences give reading practice and ask students to use context clues to choose the right word.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Show Delaware on a United States map before students begin, and talk about why it is called the First State. Students can then find Dover and the Delaware Bay on the map. This 3rd grade states worksheet also makes a great addition to a state report or a unit on the thirteen colonies. Keep the delaware word search worksheet with your other state pages for a quick review.
