Compound words are two small words joined together to make one new word, and learning to spot them is a big step for young readers. This compound words matching worksheet turns that idea into a simple game for first graders. When a child sees that star and fish become starfish, or that snow and man become snowman, a long word stops looking hard and starts looking like two short words they can already read.
