Description
This yard sale reading comprehension worksheet turns a familiar weekend event into a lesson in reading for information. A yard sale is a sale a family holds in its own yard to sell things it no longer needs, and running a good one takes more planning than most children expect. Fifth graders read an original informational passage that explains every stage of the job, from sorting closets to counting the money at the end of the day.
The two-page passage walks through each step in order: sorting items into keep, sell, and toss piles, pricing with stickers, advertising with signs and notices, setting up the tables, making change, and cleaning up afterward. Along the way it teaches useful words such as bargain, permit, and charity, each defined right in the text. After reading, students answer four multiple-choice questions and write a two-part constructed response using details from the passage.
