How to teach Making Inferences
Using Inference Chains Activity, students refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. This is perfect for making inferences and drawing conclusions.
As students read, making inferences is one of the reading comprehension skill they will use the most. This activity will help your students put together their schema and facts from the text to figure out what is happening in the pictures.
Choose a story. Using the evidence chains, make an inference about an event in the story, a character, or even what might happen next. Then fill in the next two links with an exact quote from the story that supports your thinking and another supporting detail.
