Reading comprehension is the skill of understanding, remembering, and thinking carefully about what a story actually says. The Jason Helps Out Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives 3rd Grade students an original short story and a set of questions that send them back into the text for evidence. Students practice recalling key details, using context to work out an unfamiliar word, and drawing a conclusion about how a character feels by the end of a story.
This 3rd grade community worksheet opens with a story about a boy named Jason, who spends a summer afternoon serving lunches beside his mom at the community kitchen downtown. The passage runs 236 words at a third grade reading level, so most students can read it on their own.
