Description
Kentucky is the Bluegrass State, home to rolling hills, deep caves and fast horses. This Kentucky word search worksheet helps students learn six real facts about the state while they practice careful reading and spelling. Every word in the puzzle stands for something Kentucky is known for, so finding the words is only the first step. Children then have to think about what each word means and use it to finish a clue.
The worksheet has two parts. In Part A, students find and circle six box words hidden in an 11×11 letter grid. The words run across, down and on a diagonal, so young readers have to scan in more than one direction. In Part B, they read six short clues about the state capital, the state flower, the state fish, a famous cave, a large river and an important rock, and write the matching word from the box on each line. A bright picture of goldenrod and coal sits beside the puzzle. The answer key on page two shows every circled word and every written answer.

This Kentucky word search worksheet helps kids in three ways. First, hunting for letters in a grid trains the eyes to track and spell words carefully.
