How to teach Addition

Using March Madness Basketball Addition Activity, students compete in March Madness by playing rounds of addition basketball and scoring points for their team!

Knowing your addition facts helps your students improve their mental math strategies. This activity will give your students the opportunity to practice.

To play, students flip over 2 basketballs (to represent each addend) and ‚Äòshoot’ them into each net on their addition mat. Then, add up the numbers and find the answer scorecard. Then, record the sentence on the worksheet. Students play 6 rounds of basketball to complete the tournament and finish the championship round! Finally, an additional worksheet is provided for students to ‚Äòkeep score’ and represent their addition sentences with tally marks.
