Description
The Months of the Year Fill in the Blanks Worksheet gives second grade students a calendar year with six of its months taken out, and asks them to put each one back where it belongs. Knowing the months of the year in order is the first calendar skill a child needs before reading a date, counting forward to a birthday, or working out how many months until summer. This printable turns that skill into a puzzle instead of a recitation: the child has to reason about what sits before and after each gap rather than chant the list from the beginning.
Twelve numbered slots run down two columns in calendar order. Six of them already show their month, and six are blank lines. A word box at the top holds exactly the six missing months, printed in lower case and deliberately scrambled so the order in the box never matches the order of the answers. The missing slots are 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12, so they do not fall into an every-other pattern a child could solve by counting. Hand out the Months of the Year Fill in the Blanks Worksheet as morning work, as a calendar-time follow-up, or as a quick check before a unit on dates and seasons.

Three Reasons This Helps Kids

Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Read the word box aloud together first, then let students say the whole year in order before they pick up a pencil. Ask them to cover the word box and try the last two blanks from memory. This 2nd grade calendars worksheet pairs well with a classroom calendar, a birthday chart, or a seasons sort, and it makes an easy homework page because the answer key is included. Finish by having students circle the month they were born in and count how many months are left until the end of the year.
