Description
Place value is the idea that a digit’s worth depends on where it sits inside a number, and by fifth grade students are expected to carry that idea past the millions and to the right of the decimal point. This place value practice worksheet asks students to read the position of a digit, name what it is worth, and then compare two identical digits sitting in two different places. Fifth graders who really understand place value can round, compare, add, and multiply large numbers with confidence, because they always know what each digit actually represents.
This 5th grade place value worksheet is a two-page printable with a full answer key. Part A gives six numbers with one digit underlined and asks students to write that digit’s value on the line below, mixing whole numbers up to the millions with decimals out to the thousandths. Part B is a four-row table built on the ten-times relationship: students look at the same digit in two different places and record how many times greater the first value is. Part C closes with two short constructed-response problems where students write out their reasoning. There are three reasons this place value practice worksheet helps students learn.
