About this resource
Description
Plural means more than one, and every noun follows a rule. The Sorting Plural Nouns Game turns the Sorting Plural Nouns Worksheet into a comic-book adventure with Roxy: kids say each noun out loud, one box, two boxes, listen for the extra part, and shoot it at the rule that makes it plural. It is a plural nouns game for 2nd and 3rd grade that teaches the three plural rules: add -s, add -es, and change the whole word.
Round one opens with a short “Watch me!” example: Roxy says “one man, two… mans?”, hears that it sounds silly and fires man at the Change the Word target. Then kids sort nine nouns, one at a time, into the Add -s, Add -es and Change the Word targets. Each right shot sticks with a POW and turns plural, and a full target drops with a bang. Round two shows “one bus, two buses” and then kids finish three comic speech bubbles with the right plural noun. A wrong shot bonks off and Roxy says the silly wrong word and names the rule, never the answer; a second miss makes the right target glow. Play it in your browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer.

Here are three reasons this plural nouns game helps kids learn. First, kids say each plural out loud in the frame teachers use, one ___, two ___, so they hear the extra part that -es adds after s, x, ch and sh. Second, the three targets work like a classroom plural rules anchor chart, one color per rule, so kids sort every noun by its rule. Third, the hints name the real mix-ups kids make, like gooses, foots and childs, and remind them that some nouns change the whole word.
Keep the learning going after the Sorting Plural Nouns Game. Point at things around the house and play “one, two”: one shoe, two shoes; one dish, two dishes; one mouse, two mice. For practice on paper, print the matching Sorting Plural Nouns Worksheet.
