How to teach Ten More Ten Less

In this Ten More and Ten Less Worksheet, students practice finding 10 more and less than a given number.

Being able to use a hundreds chart to solve addition and subtraction equations is a useful tool for your students. This worksheet builds a foundation for your student’s base ten understanding.

Look at the numbers below. Think about the tens and ones. Write the number ten less or ten more than the numbers shown.

Use this Ten More or Less Worksheet as an additional resource for your students.

Begin this activity by using a hundreds Chart and asking questions like “What do you notice about the hundreds chart?” and “Do you see any patterns on the hundreds chart?”. This will help students start to see the patterns in our number system. Then, display one of the activity cards and think aloud “This looks like a part of our hundreds chart. What number do you think will I write above this number?”. The goal is to have students see the pattern that each row adds 10. Then, students complete the worksheet independently or with a partner. Finally, students can continue their practice creating their own examples.
