How to teach Text Structures
Using Types of Text Activity, students recognize common types of texts to build their understanding of different genre types.
There are lots of different types of texts that your students can read. This activity introduces your students to texts that will appeal to all of your students’ interests.
Cut out and laminate each card. Use the cards to help students recognize common types of text.

Introduce this activity by reviewing different types of things that you can read. Next, students share examples of their favorite books. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, have students give book examples of genre types.
