Fifth graders are asked to read informational text closely, work out unfamiliar words from the sentence around them, and state a main idea in their own words. This Wrapping Presents Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives them all three in one sitting. The 773-word passage takes apart something every student has watched an adult do badly, and explains why it goes wrong: a sharp-cornered package is not a talent but a short list of steps in a fixed order, from measuring the sheet before cutting it to pressing every fold so the crushed fibers hold the edge. It reads like instructions, but each paragraph is a small cause-and-effect argument, which is exactly the structure fifth-grade assessments ask students to follow.
The passage runs across two pages so students build real reading stamina, and the questions come after it rather than beside it. Four multiple-choice items cover a cause-and-effect detail, a vocabulary-in-context word that the sentence around it defines, a reasoning question about why a pressed fold stays sharp, and a main-idea question drawn from the whole text. A constructed-response item then asks students to explain the closing claim that neat wrapping is a method rather than a talent, supported with two examples of their own choosing. A complete answer key with sample wording finishes the set.
