How to teach Fractions
In this 3.NF.3 Third Grade Common Core Lesson, students explain equivalence and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
This lesson teaches students how to write a fraction to represent a picture. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
First, count how many pieces of the shape are shaded in. This is your numerator. Then, count how many total pieces are in the shape. This is your denominator. Next, find the fraction card that matches the fraction you have written. Also, continue practicing creating simple equivalent fractions by coloring in parts of shapes. Finally, you can continue your practice using the provided worksheets individually or with a partner.
