Your students already know a lot of information on topics that you have learned in school. This activity will help them to build on their knowledge through research.
Research information on one of the 50 states. While researching, take notes from different sources and record the information into the graphic organizer. After collecting information create a brochure using the template.

Introduce this activity by using the US States and Capitals State Shape Flash Cards. Next, students share what they know about states from the song. Finally, students can share their writing through a gallery walk or other presentation.
