About this resource
Description
Adjectives are the describing words that tell how something looks, feels, sounds, or acts. These adjective flash cards help children notice those details and put them into words. Each card shows one bright picture, such as a slow snail, a tall giraffe, or a steaming bowl of hot soup, and the back of the card names an adjective that fits it.
The adjective flash cards print on plain paper or cardstock and fold over, so the picture is on the front and the word is on the back. Show the picture, ask children to say a word that describes it, then flip the card to read the adjective and a model sentence together. The set works for small groups, literacy centers, speech and language practice, and quick warm-ups before a writing lesson.

3 Reasons These Cards Help Kids
First, pairing each adjective with a clear picture makes the meaning easy to see and remember. Second, the model sentence on every card shows how an adjective describes a noun, which builds grammar and sentence skills. Third, saying and hearing describing words grows vocabulary, so children write richer, more detailed sentences in kindergarten through fourth grade.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Use the cards for a game of I Spy, asking children to find something in the room that matches the adjective. Have older students write a sentence with two adjectives for each picture, or sort the cards by sense words and size words. At home, keep the set on a binder ring for a quick review. These kindergarten adjectives flash cards also pair well with a short writing journal.
