Adjectives are the describing words that bring a sentence to life, and feeling words are the very first ones young readers reach for. This Adjectives Feelings Worksheet gives 1st Grade students focused practice choosing the adjective that tells how a character feels, then spotting the describing word already at work inside a sentence. When a child can name a feeling in words, writing stops being a list of events and starts sounding like a story.
This 1st grade adjectives worksheet is built for independent practice or small-group work. Part A gives students a word bank of five feeling adjectives — brave, happy, proud, shy, and sleepy — and five short sentences with a blank writing line. Students read each sentence, decide which feeling fits the clue, and write it on the line. Part B moves from choosing to identifying: five printed sentences, each holding exactly one adjective, and the student circles the word that tells about the noun. Read the directions aloud once, work the first item together, and let students finish on their own.

Three things make this Adjectives Feelings Worksheet worth the ten minutes it takes. Keep the practice going away from the page. Play a quick feelings charades round at the carpet — one student acts out sleepy or proud, and the class names the adjective. During read-alouds, pause and ask which word tells how the character feels. At home, try the “two-word upgrade”: say a plain sentence like “I saw a dog,” then challenge your child to add a describing word and say it again. Word walls also work well — start a feelings column and add a new adjective each week as students meet one in a book.
