The Author and Illustrators Worksheet helps 1st grade readers see that every picture book is made by two kinds of storytellers. The author writes the words, and the illustrator makes the pictures. Children pick any picture book, find both names on the cover, and think about how each person helps tell the story.
First, students write the book title, the author, and the illustrator. Next, they finish two sentence starters: what the author’s words tell about and what the illustrator’s pictures show. Last, they draw their favorite picture from the book. Because every child chooses their own book, all answers will vary, so this author and illustrators worksheet works with any story in your classroom library.
