Description
Every camper knows the feeling: the bag is packed, the weekend is planned, and then it rains. This Camping Inside Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives second graders a short story about a boy named Jonah who does exactly what good problem solvers do — he looks at what he has left and builds something out of it. The story is written at a 2nd grade reading level, so the work stays on the thinking, not on decoding.
Students read the three-paragraph story on the first page, then turn to the question page and answer four multiple-choice items and one written response. The questions are drawn from all three paragraphs, so a student cannot answer them from the first few lines, and the last one asks for the main idea of the whole story. The written response asks how Jonah solved his problem and tells students to use two details from the text. A complete answer key follows.
