Description
How to teach Classification
Using this Classifying Hunt Worksheet, students create their own groupings using ten objects from the classroom.
Being able to classify objects helps students to find groupings within objects. It helps their brain organize objects.
Students look at the objects. Next, ask yourself “Is there anything in common between the objects?”. Then, think about which category the object would fit best in. Finally, sort objects into categories until every object is in a group.

Introduce this worksheet by creating a list of ideas of how objects can be sorted. Ask students to share out ideas for different groupings. Then, students complete worksheet independently or with a partner. Finally, have students explain why they sorted the terms in that specific way. Once students are finished, challenge students to add more objects to each category.
