Description
This Endangered Species Worksheet turns a question fourth graders ask on their own — why are some animals disappearing? — into a real research task. Students choose one animal that is in danger of dying out, find a book or a trustworthy website about it, and record what they learn in their own words. Reading for information and pulling facts out of a source are two of the biggest jobs of fourth grade science, and this endangered species worksheet gives students a clear place to put every fact they find.
The page opens with two short lines: the animal the student picked, and the source they used. Naming the source matters, because a researcher who cannot say where a fact came from has not finished the job. Three labeled sections follow. The first asks where the animal lives, the second asks for three reasons the animal is endangered, and the third asks how people can help it. Because every child researches a different animal, no two finished pages look alike.

There are three reasons this 4th grade animals worksheet helps children learn the skill. First, it splits one big research question into four smaller ones, so a student always knows what to look for next. Second, it asks for three separate causes rather than one, which pushes students past the first sentence they find. Third, it ends on what people can do, so the lesson closes with hope and action instead of a list of losses.
Teachers and parents can stretch the lesson easily. Give each student a different animal so the class builds a whole wall of species at once. Ask students to read their three causes aloud and look for the ones that repeat, which is how a class discovers habitat loss on its own. Finished pages also make a natural first draft for a short report, a poster or a letter to a local zoo.
