Description
An acrostic poem is a fun first step into poetry: the letters of one word run down the page, and each line of the poem begins with one of those letters. This Christmas acrostic poem worksheet invites second graders to spell out C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S and fill each line with a word, phrase, or short sentence about the season, from twinkling lights to gifts for family and friends.
The page prints the nine letters of CHRISTMAS in large purple type down the left side, each resting on its own roomy writing line, with a cheerful holiday picture of a tree, presents, a sled, a wreath, and a gingerbread house at the bottom for ideas. Students brainstorm words that start with each letter, then write their own poem line by line. Use it for a December writing center, a holiday party activity, morning work, or a keepsake to send home.
