Description
Every sentence a young reader meets follows the same two rules: it starts with a capital letter and it ends with a punctuation mark. The I Can Read Worksheet helps 1st grade students put those rules to work as they read scrambled words, figure out the order that makes sense, and write a complete sentence of their own.
Students look at a short list of mixed-up words, read each word carefully, and decide which word comes first. A worked example at the top of the page shows the whole process. Then they write each sentence on the lines, starting with a capital letter and adding a period. In the last part, children write two names with a capital letter, a reminder that names are always capitalized. Use it as a morning warm-up, a literacy center, or quick homework.
