Our Living and Non-Living Things ABC Order Worksheet helps 1st grade students practice two skills at once: telling living things from nonliving things and putting words in alphabetical order. Living things grow, need food and water, and make more of their own kind. Nonliving things do not. Students read simple words, decide which group each word belongs in, and then use the first letter of each word to write it in ABC order.
How to Use This Worksheet
Students read the twelve words in the word box. Each word names an animal or an everyday object. They sort the words into two labeled columns, Living and Nonliving, and write the words in each column in ABC order on the lines. Every word in a column begins with a different letter, so children order the list by looking at the first letter only. The words in the box are mixed up on purpose, so students must read and think instead of copying straight down. This living and non-living things ABC order worksheet works well for a science center, morning work, an early finisher task, or homework.
