Learning the fifty states goes far beyond memorizing a shape on a map, and this maine worksheet gives third graders a real reading task built around one of them. Instead of sending students off to look up a bird, a flower and a date somewhere else, this page hands them a short non-fiction passage about Maine and asks them to find the answers inside it. Students read about the rocky Atlantic coast, the lobster boats, statehood in 1820, the capital at Augusta, the single bordering state and the woods that cover most of the land.
