Page one is a colorful picture of the White Mountains above a calm lake, followed by a passage of about 250 words. Students read about when the state joined the country, its neighbors, its very short coastline, the Granite State nickname, Mount Washington, mountain notches, the capital city of Concord and the ways families enjoy the outdoors in every season. Page two has four multiple-choice questions and one written response that asks for two details from the text.
