How to teach Solving Word Problems
In this 2.OA.1 Second Grade Common Core Lesson, students add and subtract within 100 to solve one and two step word problems using different strategies.
Being able to find strategies to solve word problems is an important skill for your students to do. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
Students take turns answering word problem cards using the Draw it! for support. For a correct answer, students get to play an X or O on the Tic-Tac-Toe board. Students use addition and subtraction to solve one- and two-step word problems and plug in letters to find the answer to the joke “What do you call a grouchy cow?”
