About this resource
Description
Shapes are everywhere, and first graders love spotting them once they know what to look for. A clock face, a slice of orange, a door and a flag all hide simple flat shapes. This finding geometry examples worksheet helps children connect the shape names they are learning to real objects they see every day at home and at school.
About This Worksheet
Students look closely at six pictures of everyday objects: a star cookie, an orange slice, a pennant flag, a hardware nut, a window and a chalkboard. They decide which flat shape each object shows, then write the shape word on the line. A Shape Box beside the pictures shows each shape with its name, so children can compare the object to the shape and copy the spelling. The answer key on page two shows every correct shape word.
What’s Included
- One worksheet page with six everyday-object picture cards
- A Shape Box with circle, hexagon, rectangle, square, star and triangle
- Large writing lines sized for first grade handwriting
- A full answer key
Why It Helps Kids Learn
- It links shape names to real objects, which builds lasting geometry vocabulary.
- It asks children to notice sides and corners instead of guessing from color or size.
- Writing each shape word gives extra spelling and handwriting practice.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Before the worksheet, take a short shape walk around the classroom or house and point out circles, squares and rectangles together. After students finish, ask each child to find one more object for any shape in the box and draw it on the back. This 1st grade geometry worksheet also works well in a math center, as morning work, or as a quick check after a shapes lesson. Pair this finding geometry examples worksheet with the shape song below to review the names in a fun way.
