Description
This New Mexico word search worksheet turns six real facts about the Land of Enchantment into a puzzle third graders actually want to solve. New Mexico is a state of wide desert, deep canyons and flat-topped mesas, and the words in this New Mexico word search worksheet name the things a student would see driving across it: adobe, canyon, desert, mesa, turquoise and yucca. Every word is a single noun a third grader can define, so the puzzle builds state vocabulary instead of hiding celebrity names in a grid.
The sheet has two parts. In Part A students hunt the six words in an eleven-by-eleven letter grid, reading across, down and on the diagonal. In Part B they meet each word again as a definition and write the matching word on the line, which is the step that turns finding a word into knowing it. Use it as a warm-up before a states unit, as an early-finisher activity, or as a take-home review. An answer key is included, with every word circled in the grid and every blank filled in.
