Learning about the fifty states begins with one state at a time, and this Ohio worksheet gives third graders a clear, self-contained place to start. Students read a short non-fiction passage about the Buckeye State and then answer questions using only what the text tells them. The passage covers where the state sits in the country, the year it joined the United States, the lake that forms its northern edge, the river that bends along its southern and eastern sides, the story behind its nickname, the two main parts of its land, and the cities and inventors it is known for. Because every answer lives in the passage, no outside research or internet access is needed.
This 3rd grade states worksheet works as a reading day, a social studies lesson, or a review before a state report. Page one holds the illustrated passage, page two holds the questions, and page three is the answer key. Students read the passage first, then fill in the bubble beside the best answer for each of the four multiple-choice items.
