About this resource
Description
Roman numerals use letters instead of digits to show numbers, and reading them is a fun way to build number sense. The Roman Numeral Names Worksheet helps 2nd grade students read the Roman numerals from II to X and connect each one to its number word, so they practice reading numbers in more than one form.
This printable page shows nine large Roman numerals, each in its own card, with a writing line below it. A word bank at the top lists the number words two through ten. Students read each numeral, find the matching number word in the bank, and write it on the line. The cards are mixed up, so children must read every numeral instead of following a pattern.
What’s Included
- One worksheet page with nine Roman numeral cards from II to X
- A word bank with the number words two through ten
- Roomy writing lines sized for young learners
- A full answer key with every number word filled in
Why It Helps Kids
- It builds number sense. Seeing the same amount as a numeral, a word and a Roman numeral deepens understanding.
- It builds spelling. Copying number words from the bank reinforces how to spell two through ten.
- It teaches a pattern. Numerals like IV and IX show children that a smaller letter before a bigger one means take away.
Teacher and Parent Ideas
Before starting, show the three Roman numeral letters I, V and X and what each one is worth. Build VI and IV with sticky notes and talk about why the order changes the number. Look for Roman numerals on clocks, book chapters and buildings together. Use the Roman Numeral Names Worksheet as morning work, in a math center, as homework, or as a quick review. The answer key makes checking easy, and this 2nd grade numbers worksheet pairs well with other number word practice.
