How to Teach Rounding to Hundred-Billions
The Rounding to Hundred Billions Worksheet helps students round very large whole numbers with confidence. To round to the nearest hundred-billions, students find the hundred-billions digit, look at the ten-billions digit to its right, and round up when that digit is 5 or more or keep the same when it is 4 or less. Every place after the hundred-billions place then becomes a zero. Rounding like this is how people estimate huge amounts quickly, from world email counts to company sales.
About This Worksheet
This 5th grade estimation worksheet has two parts. In Part A, students round six twelve-digit numbers to the nearest hundred-billions and write each answer in the box on its card. The set includes numbers that round up, numbers that round down, and one that sits right on the halfway point. In Part B, students solve two story problems that ask them to round first and then subtract or add the rounded amounts, including a money problem with dollars and cents.
