How to teach Symmetry
In this Seaside Symmetry Activity, students recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts.
Symmetry will help your students as they create their own art and decorate their house. This lesson is perfect for small groups, math centers, or independent practice.
First, identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry. Then, draw the line of symmetry on each of the shapes. Next, sort the shapes into Symmetrical and Asymmetrical categories. Finally, continue your practice on the provided worksheet individually or with a partner. Continue the challenge by completing a shape to make it symmetrical.
