Learning a state is easier when the words come with pictures in a child’s head, and this south carolina word search worksheet gives third graders six of them. Students hunt for cotton, ocean, palmetto, peach, shrimp, and wren in an eleven-by-eleven letter grid, then use the same six words to finish sentences that explain what each one has to do with the Palmetto State. The puzzle pulls them in; the sentences make the words stick.
The page is built in two parts so it works for a wide range of readers. Part A is the puzzle: the six words hide across, down, and on the diagonal, which asks students to search in every direction rather than scan one row at a time. Part B turns each word into a definition item, with the key clue word set in color so students know exactly what they are matching. A tall tree with fan-shaped leaves is a palmetto.
