About this resource
Description
This Subtracting From One Hundred Worksheet gives second graders steady practice with two-digit subtraction within 100. Four of the six column problems ask students to regroup a ten into ones, and two do not, so children have to look at each problem and decide what to do before they subtract. This Subtracting From One Hundred Worksheet keeps every number under a tens and ones label so young learners can see exactly which digit they are working with.
Part A has six column problems set in neat numbered cards. Students start at the ones place, check whether the top digit is big enough, regroup when it is not, and then subtract the tens. Part B turns the skill into two short word problems: a class bus trip that starts at 100 miles and a farmer selling eggs at the market. Children read each story, subtract, and write the answer on the line. This 2nd grade subtraction worksheet works well for a math center, small group lesson, morning work, homework or a quick check after teaching regrouping.
What’s Included
- Six two-digit column subtraction problems with tens and ones labels
- A mix of problems that do and do not need regrouping
- Two subtraction word problems, including one that subtracts from 100
- A complete answer key on the second page
- A printable PDF sized for standard letter paper
Three Reasons This Helps Kids
- Students learn when to regroup. Mixing regrouping and non-regrouping problems builds the habit of checking the ones place first.
- Place value stays clear. The T and O labels keep every digit lined up in its own column.
- Math connects to real life. Word problems about miles and eggs show why subtracting within 100 matters outside of school.
Teacher and Parent Ideas
- Model problem 1 aloud, showing how to trade one ten for ten ones before subtracting.
- Let students build a problem with base-ten blocks before they solve it on paper.
- Have children check each answer by adding the difference back to the bottom number.
- Ask students to circle the problems that needed regrouping and explain how they knew.
