Description
A beginning reader does not sound out does, been or goes — those words have to be known on sight, and the fastest way to know them is to meet them again and again inside a story worth reading. This sight words reading comprehension worksheet takes seven words from the Second sight word list — does, green, around, been, found, its and goes — and folds every one of them into a short original story about a little green frog who lives beside a quiet pond. The frog hops around the tall grass, hides under the reeds, finds a busy fly and settles back on his lily pad, and each sentence is written to first-grade measures so a student who is still building fluency can read the whole page on his or her own.
This 1st grade sight words worksheet is a three-page, no-prep printable. Page one carries the illustrated story, page two carries the questions, and the last page is the answer key. Students read the 107-word passage, then answer five multiple-choice questions with three fill-in-the-bubble choices each. The questions are pulled from all four paragraphs, so a child cannot answer them from the opening sentences alone, and every answer is stated plainly in the text. Print it, hand it out, and the reading, the sight word practice and the grading are already done for you.
