Primer sight words are the small, high-frequency words a kindergartner meets on nearly every page — are, at, am, with, now, they, all, so and came — and they are the words a beginning reader has to know on sight rather than sound out letter by letter. Recognizing them in a list is only half the skill; the other half is holding on to them inside a real sentence while also following what the sentence means. The Where are We? Primer Sight Words Reading Comprehension Worksheet was built for exactly that second half. It wraps the primer list inside a short original story about a trip to the pond, so children practice the words the way they will actually meet them: in connected text that is carrying meaning.
The story runs just fifty-four words and sits at a true Kindergarten reading level, so a five- or six-year-old can work through it with a partner, in a small group, or independently once the words are familiar. Page one holds the story beside a full-color illustration of the scene, which gives beginning readers a picture to lean on when a word slows them down. Page two carries the questions, so children have to look back at the text instead of answering from the picture alone.
