Primer sight words are the words a young reader meets on almost every page, and reading them on sight is what frees a child to think about meaning instead of sounding out. The Our Dog Primer Sight Words Reading Comprehension Worksheet puts nine Dolch primer words — our, he, like, good, well, eat, four, white, and too — inside one short, friendly story about a family dog, so children practice instant word recognition and comprehension at the same time. Because the words appear in real sentences rather than on flash cards, students learn to trust them in running text, which is exactly where sight-word knowledge has to work.
This Kindergarten reading comprehension worksheet is built in two simple parts. Page one holds a nine-sentence story about a white, fluffy, four-year-old dog, set in large, easy-to-track type beside a full-colour watercolor scene of a child throwing a ball for her dog in the back yard. Page two holds five multiple-choice questions, each with three answer choices and a fill-in bubble, so a child who is not yet writing sentences can still show what they understood. Read the story aloud together the first time, then let the child reread it independently before answering. Every question is answered directly by the text, so a student who is unsure can go back and find the sentence that proves the answer.

There are three reasons the Our Dog Primer Sight Words Reading Comprehension Worksheet helps children learn this skill. First, it gives repeated, meaningful exposure: the primer words come back several times inside a story a child actually wants to finish, which builds automatic recognition far better than an isolated list. Second, it pairs decoding with understanding, so a child never learns to read words without reading for meaning.
