Description
Kindergarten readers are learning to hold a short text in mind and answer questions about it, and they are also learning what each number really means. This Things that come in 10s Reading Comprehension Worksheet practices both at once. The short story is about the number ten: it comes after nine, children have ten fingers and ten toes, a crab has ten legs, and bowling needs ten pins. Then it asks children to look at their own two hands and count their fingers. Every sentence is short, and every word is one a Kindergartner can read or sound out, so the effort goes into understanding rather than decoding.
The first page pairs the story with a bright picture of ten bowling pins standing in a row, so children can count all ten for themselves. Five multiple-choice questions follow on their own page, each with three choices and a big bubble to fill in. The questions are spread across all three paragraphs, so a child has to look back at the whole story instead of the first line only. Read the story aloud together first, then let students answer on their own and point to the sentence that proves each answer.
