About this resource
Description
Reading comprehension means understanding what happens in a story and why it matters. This Too Proud to Ride reading comprehension worksheet gives 2nd grade readers a short, warm story to read closely and then answer questions about the characters, the problem and the lesson.
About This Worksheet
Students read an original story about Logan, a boy who has a shiny new bike but does not know how to ride it yet. He is too proud to tell his friends, until he finally tells the truth and they help him learn. After reading, children answer four multiple-choice questions by filling in the bubble next to the best answer, then write about the lesson Logan learned. The questions move through the whole story, from the beginning to the end, so students must look back at every part of the text. Use it for independent reading practice, small groups or homework.
What’s Included
- A one-page illustrated story written at a 2nd grade reading level
- Four multiple-choice comprehension questions and one written response
- A complete answer key
Why This Worksheet Helps Kids
- It builds careful reading by asking students to find details in the text.
- It helps children think about a character’s feelings and reasons.
- The written response teaches kids to name a story’s lesson in their own words.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Read the title together first and ask students to predict what “too proud” might mean. After the story, talk about a time someone helped them learn something new. This 2nd grade reading comprehension worksheet also makes a great partner activity: one child reads aloud while the other follows along, then they answer the questions together.
