Verbs are the action words that make a sentence move, and second graders build strong writing and reading skills when they can spot them quickly. This Verbs Story Search Worksheet gives students a short, friendly story and asks them to hunt for every action verb hiding inside it. Finding verbs in connected text is harder than finding them in a word list, because the reader has to decide what each word is actually doing in its sentence. That is exactly the thinking this activity practices.
This 2nd grade verbs worksheet is built around a ten-sentence garden story about two friends named Faith and Angel. In Part A, students read the story and circle each action verb they find. In Part B, they write all ten verbs on the lines below, which turns recognition into recall and gives handwriting practice at the same time.
