Reading comprehension is the skill of understanding, remembering, and thinking about a text after reading it, and by fourth grade students are expected to do all three at once. This We Need Something Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives them an original short story and then asks them to look back at it for evidence. Students identify the main idea, put events in order, explain why a character feels the way she does, and interpret figurative language. Because every question is answerable from the passage itself, the sheet builds the close-reading habit that state assessments measure.
This 4th grade reading comprehension worksheet opens with a two-page story about Natalie and Jason, two bored cousins who turn a long summer morning into a busy afternoon by opening a lemonade and popcorn stand.
