The letter y does not always say its own name. At the end of a word like candy, happy, or shiny, the letter y says the long e sound, and young readers have to hear that sound before they can read the word. This Y Like Candy Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives first graders a short, friendly nonfiction story that is packed with y-as-long-e words, so they practice the sound the way they will really meet it: inside sentences they want to read.
