How to teach Reading Fluency
Using Read It Syllables Activity, students know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
When you begin to read, you need to know how to read words and sentences with accuracy. Many of your students will encounter words that they don’t know. This activity gives students the opportunity to practice breaking down words that they don’t know.
Use dry erase markers to split the words into syllables. Then, sort the words in the categories depending on amount of syllables.

Introduce this activity by asking students to share examples of words and sentences. Next, students read different sentences in different voices. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students practice reading independently with their own books. Once finished, students share words that the broke down by syllables to fluently read.
